Carolina RailHawks continue to lead the way in the United Soccer Leagues First Division after the latest weekend of action.
Martin Rennie's side made it four wins in a row to go three points clear at the summit of USL-1. Carolina's Southern Derby Cup rivals Charleston Battery remain the only undefeated side in the league, while Montreal Impact claimed their first road win of the season. Minnesota Thunder are still to record a victory following their latest setback at home.
The action started on Friday, with the RailHawks leaving it until the last minute to defeat the struggling Cleveland City Stars 1-0 at WakeMed Soccer Park. Daniel Paladini's deflected free kick eluded a diving Hunter Gilstrap in the City Stars goal for the match winner. In Texas, Austin Aztex returned to winning ways with an impressive 3-1 win over Puerto Rico Islanders. Yordany Alvarez scored twice for Adrian Heath's side at Nelson Field.
There were three matches on Saturday, with Charleston staying in second place after a 2-0 home win over Cleveland. Chris Williams and Kenji Treschuk had the goals for the Battery, with the South Carolina club recording a third-straight win. In Upstate New York, Rochester Rhinos' home opener ended on a sour note, as Roberto Brown's late strike gave the Impact a 1-0 victory at the newly-named Marina Auto Stadium. In Oregon, Portland Timbers moved up to third in the standings after extending their unbeaten run to seven matches with a comfortable 2-0 home win over Vancouver Whitecaps at PGE Park.
The lone match on Sunday saw Puerto Rico bounce back from Friday's defeat in Austin to claim a 2-1 victory over the winless Thunder in Minnesota. Goals by Jonny Steele and Domenic Mediate canceled out Lawrence Olum's opening strike for the home side.
