Whitecaps battling the Blues - 24 Hours

By BOB MACKIN

THE BUZZ:

The Vancouver Whitecaps will try to return to their winning ways tonight when the Miami FC Blues visit Swangard Stadium in USL-1 action. (7 p.m. Shaw TV/usllive.com)

REBOUND NEEDED:

The 3-4-2, seventh-place Whitecaps were 2-1 losers on Sunday to the Montreal Impact in the teams’ first meeting since Vancouver blanked the Impact in consecutive Nutrilite Canadian Championship matches.

WELCOME BACK:

Striker Marlon James will be available for selection after rebounding from a hamstring injury suffered May 10. The St. Vincent and the Grenadines international is certain to create havoc for Miami FC if he’s coupled with Charles Gbeke. The Blues, winless on the road, are ninth in the 11-team First Division with a 2-4-1 record.

J.T. GONE:

Veteran defender Justin Thompson hung up his boots Thursday to pursue a business career. The 28-year-old North Vancouver defender played six games after rejoining the Whitecaps from the Portland Timbers.

LONG TIME, NO SEE:

After Friday, the Whitecaps’ next home game is July 9.

DOUBLE NO TROUBLE:

The W-League Whitecaps hope to end their tie streak of three consecutive 1-1 ties when they host the Los An-geles Legends at 5 p.m. (Shaw TV/usllive.com). The Whitecaps also face L.A. on June 18 during three-game California road swing.
