Nunes penalty downs Whitecaps - Canadian Press

Whitecaps fall 2-1 on the road in Florida after defender Jeff Parke's hand ball whistled for penalty kick

MIAMI — Leo Inacio Nunes scored the winning goal on a penalty kick and the Miami FC Blues defeated the Vancouver Whitecaps 2-1 in United Soccer Leagues First Division action Sunday.

Whitecaps defender Jeff Parke handled the ball in the Vancouver box as he tried to win possession from the dangerous Nunes. The Brazilian then stepped up to beat Whitecaps goalkeeper Jay Nolly with a left-footed strike to give Miami a two-goal lead.

Former Whitecaps striker Alen Marcina also scored for Miami (6-6-2), which beat Vancouver (5-6-3) at home for the first time in club history.

Despite the sending off of Marcina in the second half and a late goal by Dever Orgill, the Whitecaps saw their five-match winning streak versus the Blues in Miami come to an end.

Marcina was sent off when he was shown a red card for dissent in the 62nd minute after he complained about a goal kick awarded to the Whitecaps.
