Burgess named in Team of the Week

Vancouver Whitecaps midfielder
Tyrell Burgess
has been named in the USL First Division Team of the Week for the first time in his career.

The speedy winger made the Week 16 squad after registering an assist in last Saturday's 4-2 home win over Puerto Rico Islanders at Swangard Stadium. The Bermuda international set up Marlon James' second goal in the weekend match-up after an attacking run down the right flank before driving a pinpoint cross onto the head of unmarked goalscorer. The assist was due reward for an excellent night for Burgess, which also saw the USL-1 rookie hit a second-half corner kick that resulted in the Whitecaps second goal of the evening.

Burgess was one of four midfielders to be chosen this week. Austin Aztex man AJ Godbolt, Montreal Impact newcomer Ciaran O'Brien, and Rochester Rhinos' Tiger Fitzpatrick were also selected to the weekly all-star XI. Portland Timbers Stephen Keel and Puerto Rico's Nigel Henry each made the team after their respective sides battled to a 0-0 draw on Thursday, while Charleston Battery’s Matt Bobo rounded out the three defensive selections. Puerto Rico’s Bill Gaudette was the team's selected goalkeeper.

USL-1 Player of the Week Gregory Richardson was one of three strikers to be selected for Week 16. Austin forward Gifton Noel-Williams was also picked, as well as Paulo Araujo jr. from Miami FC Blues.
