CLEVELAND — Globe and Mail Update

After their second match in 24 hours, the Vancouver Whitecaps settled for a 0-0 tie against the United Soccer Leagues expansion Cleveland City stars on Saturday.

On Friday the Whitecaps downed the Rochester Rhinos 3-1 on two goals from Marlon James but were unable to break down the struggling Ohio outfit at Middlefield Cheese Stadium on Saturday.

Midfielder Kenold Versailles made his first ever start for the Whitecaps since joining the team in the off-season and the Haiti international was unlucky not to score his first goal in the 23rd minute.

Charles Gbeke narrowly missed converting a Martin Nash free kick in the 34th minute.

Cleveland outshot Vancouver 4-3.

The Whitecaps continue their road trip on Thursday when they return to the Pacific Northwest for a game against the Portland Timbers.
