The Vancouver Whitecaps dropped to 7-9-4 when they lost 2-1 Friday to the Charleston Battery at Swangard Stadium in United Soccer Leagues' First Division play.

The sixth-place Whitecaps gave up two first half goals to Darren Spicer and Randi Patterson. Captain Martin Nash spoiled Battery goalkeeper Dusty Hudock's shutout bid in the 80th minute.

The Caps will seek an end to their winless-in-three slump when the Carolina RailHawks visit Saturday.
