Bundesliga side tries out Gage - The Province

Residency grad earns trial with Eintracht Frankfurt
Defender-midfielder Ethan Gage has joined German side Eintracht Frankfurt on a two-week trial, the Vancouver Whitecaps announced Wednesday.

The 18-year-old will train with the U-23 team at Eintracht Frankfurt, which is currently tied for second place after two games in Germany's elite league.

"The opportunity for Ethan to have a trial with Eintracht Frankfurt arose pretty quickly," said Whitecaps president Bob Lenarduzzi.

"Although we are in the latter stages of our season, we did not want to deny Ethan this chance."

The German summer transfer window closes at the end of August.

The Cochrane, Alta., native was one of the first players to join the Whitecaps residency program when it began in 2007. This season he has played a more prominent role in the men's team, having made 21 appearances -- including 12 starts.

  • Whitecaps striker Dever Orgill will miss the rest of the season after having surgery on his knee last week. The Jamaican youth international, who is also a product of the residency program, made 12 appearances and scored two goals with the men's team this season. Also, forward Marlon James is expected to miss two to three weeks with a groin pull.

The Whitecaps play their third USL match in six days when they visit the Charleston Battery today at 4:30 p.m.
