Vancouver gets past Cleveland 2-1 - Canadian Press

BURNABY, B.C. — The Vancouver Whitecaps got goals from Charles Gbeke and Marlon James to down the Cleveland City Star 2-1 in United Soccer Leagues action Friday.

Gbeke gave the Whitecaps the lead in the first half before Cleveland pulled even thanks to Teteh Bangura before halftime. James, who came on as a substitute, struck home a second-half penalty to give Vancouver the win. The win means Vancouver ends the regular season a record of 11-10-9 for a seventh-place finish in the league standings.

Cleveland City ended their inaugural USL-1 campaign at the bottom of the standings in 11th place with a record a 4-19-7 record. Copyright © 2009 The Canadian Press. All rights reserved.
