U-18 Prospects Girls return to Surf Cup

Vancouver Whitecaps FC U-18 Prospects Girls are back in Southern California this weekend for the 2009 San Diego Surf College Cup.

After finishing runners-up in this summer's U-19 Super division tournament at San Diego Surf Cup XXIX, Jesse Symons' side look to build on that successful run by becoming the first Canadian team to win a Surf Cup title. They take part in the U-19 Super division of the Surf College Cup from Friday, November 27, to Sunday, November 29.

Symons will be taking a strong squad to San Diego, with three of his players having received call-ups to recent Canadian national team training camps. Midfielder Nicole Setterlund and striker Abigail Raymer were called up to Canada's U-17 women's national team last month, while striker Jenna Richardson was called into Canada's U-20 women's squad in October.

The Prospects will play in Bracket C and start their tournament campaign on Friday morning against Washington Premier FC '91 Black before taking on California's Sonoma County Alliance SC on Friday afternoon. The Whitecaps will complete their group stage on Saturday morning against San Diego Surf White -whom they beat in a penalty shootout at Surf Cup XXIX this past August.

The winner of Bracket C will advance to the tournament semifinals and play the winner from Bracket B early Sunday morning. The two semifinal winners will then meet in the Surf College Cup final at midday on Sunday.
