Haber set to leave Whitecaps - The Province

Vancouver Whitecaps head coach Teitur Thordarson returns from vacation today and gets right back to shopping.

A forward will be at the top of his list.

With the international transfer window now open, Marcus Haber's move to English Championship side West Bromwich Albion is imminent.

The speedy 6-foot-3 striker from Vancouver was on a four-day trial for Baggies boss Roberto Di Matteo in late November and the two sides are putting the finishing touches on a transfer deal, sources confirmed.

Haber was named United Soccer Leagues First Division rookie of the year in 2009 and was also voted fan favourite and top newcomer for the Whitecaps.

He scored eight league goals and 12 in all competitions.

The move will mark his second go-around in Europe. Haber, who turns 21 this weekend, was a youth player for Dutch side FC Groningen.

Thordarson heads to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., on Thursday for the Major League Soccer combine. Last season, he plucked South Carolina gem Wes Knight from the player showcase.
