It was another super year for British Columbia teams in the United Soccer Leagues (USL) Super Y-League, led by a North American championship title for the U-15 Boys from Coquitlam Metro-Ford Soccer Club (CMFSC).
In all, BC sent 12 teams from the Pacific Northwest Division to the 2010 Super Y-League Finals that were held late last month in Tampa, Florida.
CMFSC led the way with five teams. They included the U-13 and U-16 Girls teams and the U-13, U-14, and champion U-15 Boys teams. Mountain FC followed suit, qualifying the U-14 Boys and the twice-bitten U-16 Boys, who lost in the championship final for the second consecutive year. West Coast Capitals from Victoria, BC, qualified two teams in the U-15 and U-16 Girls, while the Coastal FC U-14 Girls, Revolution FC U-13 Boys, and the Abbotsford Mariners U-16 Boys also reached the finals.
To add to their finals success, CMFSC also took top honours across both the Boys and Girls divisions in the annual Super Y-League Club Rankings for 2010. The rankings recognize the league's top clubs on a competitive and administrative basis. Finishing in fourth was Mountain FC, followed by Coastal FC in 10th and West Coast Capitals in 17th.
BC teams also placed 12 players on the 2010 Super Y-League All-Tournament Teams.
CMFSC goalkeeper Cameron Frost was one of three members selected from the U-15 Boys championship side. Teammates Adam Jones - who scored three goals - and defender Chad de Boer were also selected. CMFSC’s Gina Fabbro, who scored five of her squad’s six goals, earned the U-16 Girls Golden Boot award, as did defender Jonah Reinhardt from the U-14 Boys team.
Mountain FC added three players from its U-16 Boys to the All-tournament Team. Striker Michael McKinnon, midfielder Lucas Sweda, and defender Tristan Wallis-Meyer were added to the all-star squad. Also placing two players on the All-Tournament Team were West Coast Capitals U-16 Girls striker Elise Wyatt (four nominations) and midfielder Katie Krauetner (three goals, two assists). Rounding out the BC players that were selected were Abbotsford Mariners U-16 Boys midfielder Gurminder Kang and Kate Rizzardo from Coastal FC U-14 Girls.

CLUB FINALS RECAP
U-13 Division - three qualified
On the Boys side, CMFSC completed the finals with 0W-3L-1D record, losing to Real Maryland in the consolation, while Surrey's Revolution FC finished with a 2W-1L-1D record and a consolation win over Ocean City FC. For the Girls, CMFSC qualified first from the Pacific Northwest Division, finishing the finals with a 3-1 defeat in the consolation to West Pines United.
U-14 Division - three qualified
Coastal FC Girls qualified as the number-one seed and finished the finals with a 2W-1L-1D record, including a 3-2 consolation win over Perugia Griffos. On the Boys side, Mountain FC defeated Ironbound Soccer Club 3-1 in a consolation match, while CMFSC went 2W-0L-2D, finishing with a 3-0 consolation win over MPS Knights.
U-15 Division - two qualified
Number-one seed in the Pacific Northwest, CMFSC ran up a 4W-0L-1D record, including a North American championship title with a win over Tampa Bay Premier 5-3 on penalties. On the Girls side, West Coast Capitals finished with a record of 1W-2L-1D, including a consolation defeat to Quickstrike FC.
U-16 Division - four qualified
For the Boys, Mountain FC went 4W-1L-2D, while going down to defeat in a championship game for the second consecutive season. After defeating Super Nova 3-0 in the semifinals, Mountain faced an Ironbound team that had knocked out fellow Canadian rivals Abbotsford Mariners 1-0 in the other semifinal. Despite a strong performance, Mountain went down 2-1. Abbotsford finished 2W-1L-1D, with their 1-0 defeat to Ironbound in the semifinals. For the Girls, West Coast Capitals went 1W-2L-0D, losing to Ocean City in the consolation round, while CMFSC went 1W-1L-2D, losing to Triangle FC in the consolations.
