With preseason training starting on Monday, whitecapsfc.com's Carl Valentine took time to speak to one of the new faces in camp with the Major League Soccer new boys.

Drafted eighth overall in this year's MLS SuperDraft, midfielder Michael Nanchoff took time from his training commitments to take part in Carl's 'Question and Answer' segment.

Q: Welcome Michael, when did you arrive in Vancouver and what were your first impressions?

A: I arrived three days ago and it's beautiful. Any chance that I get to walk around the city a little, I do and it’s awesome.

Q: And how was your first day?

A: My first day of training has been good, it's been a long time coming and a lot of hype through the SuperDraft, and I am just happy the time has arrived.

Q: As a high draft pick, what things do you think you need to do this preseason to impress the coaches?

A: It all stems from hard work, you have to show the coaches you are going to work harder than anybody else.

Q: What do you see as your best position?

A: I feel that being a winger is my best position, and I believe the coaches feel the same way as well.

Q: Your father, George Nanchoff, was also a professional soccer player in the 1980's, and a very skilled one at that. Do you model your game after him?

A: I think so. He definitely showed me the ropes, and he is someone to model my game after.

Q: Is your dad still playing?

A: Yeah, he still plays Over-50's soccer, which is very funny, but he has still got it.
