Tickets now on sale for Columbus Crew and Real Salt Lake July home matches

Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced today that individual match tickets are now on sale for the Wednesday, July 6, match against Columbus Crew and the Saturday, July 16, match versus Real Salt Lake. "Columbus Crew and Real Salt Lake have been two of the best teams in Major League Soccer the past several years and will be tough opponents to play," said Whitecaps FC chief executive officer Paul Barber. "With most of our matches on the road come June and July, it’s vital that our fans continue their outstanding support to help get results at home."

Set for a 7 p.m. PT kickoff, the Wednesday, July 6, match will see the Blue and White host the 2008 MLS Cup champions Columbus Crew on Bell Pitch at Empire Field. In addition to their MLS Cup title, the Crew have won the MLS Supporters’ Shield as the league’s top regular season team on three occasions, finishing atop the standings in 2004, 2008, and 2009, while also capturing the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup title in 2002. This will be the second meeting between the two clubs, as Columbus won the first encounter 2-1 at Columbus Crew Stadium on Saturday, April 30. The Crew currently sit in fourth place in the MLS Eastern Conference standings with a record of 3W-3L-4D.

On Saturday, July 16, the ‘Caps welcome 2009 MLS Cup champions Real Salt Lake, with kickoff set for 1 p.m. PT. The match will be played on a temporary grass surface on Bell Pitch at Empire Field, with the friendly versus Manchester City FC to follow on Monday, July 18. Since winning their first league title, RSL have become one of the dominant forces in MLS. The Utah-based club followed up their championship season by finishing second in the league standings in 2010, before embarking on a lengthy journey to the finals of the 2010-11 CONCACAF Champions League. This will be the second meeting between the two clubs, as Vancouver travel to Sandy, Utah, next Saturday, June 4, to face RSL at Rio Tinto Stadium. RSL are currently in third place in the MLS Western Conference standings with a record of 5W-1L-2D.
