'Caps Chronicle August 10

VANCOUVER WHITECAPS FC HEADLINES:

Before his country earned a 3-0 victory over DR Congo (BBC Sports), Vancouver Whitecaps FC striker Mustapha Jarju discussed his experiences thus far with Whitecaps FC while away on international duty with The Gambia.(Observer Sports – All Africa.com).

Also of note, Vancouver Whitecaps FC reserves claimed their first MLS Reserve League victory on Tuesday afternoon at Swangard Stadium in Burnaby, BC with a 4-2 victory over Seattle Sounders FC reserves. Check out this summary of the match(Marc Weber – The Province).

With Martin Rennie named new Whitecaps FC head coach for the start of next season, several analysts have taken note of his impressive track record. Here his coaching path is detailed:  Rennie is a young coach, but already has plenty of experience having started coaching in his mid-twenties after injury brought a premature end to his playing career. He brings a winning attitude to Vancouver after six years of success since beginning his coaching career in 2005”(Luke Wileman – TSN).

Though Rennie is a Scotsman, this article suggests that he may bring a unique style to the table (Russell Berrisford – Vancouver Sun).

More information on what Mr. Rennie brings was discussed through Major League Soccer’s website, “Playing wise, I like to keep possession of the ball as best we can,” said Rennie, whose RailHawks have employed a very aggressive 4-3-3 formation this season. “I like to penetrate when we get into the opposition’s half – not just keep the ball for the sake of it” (Martin McMahon – MLSsoccer.com).

This article highlights some of Rennie’s accomplishments throughout his coaching career (Marc Weber – The Province).

A final compilation of the media frenzy coverage on Rennie can be found here! Whitecaps name new coach’ (Scott Russell/Rick Dhaliwal – News 1130) and ‘Rennie to coach Whitecaps in 2012’ (The Sports Network – The Miami Herald).
