Come down and show your support for Raise-a-Reader Day and your Vancouver Whitecaps FC!
Tomorrow, Wednesday, September 28, is Raise-a-Reader Day and the ‘Caps are slated to play a big part in the event to help raise funds for family literacy programs.
“It has always been the aim of the club to be active in the community” said Bob Lenarduzzi, president of Vancouver Whitecaps FC. “Raise-a-Reader Day is a great way for us to put our values into action and help out a wonderful cause.”
Originally started by The Vancouver Sun in 1997, the Raise-a-Reader program expanded nationally in 2002 and to date, the program has raised more than $17 million. This year they hope to continue that trend and aim even higher.
Whitecaps FC have been involved in this initiative for a number of years, but this is the first year they will be involved as a Major League Soccer (MLS) club.
Representing the club will be Whitecaps FC defender Jordan Harvey, alongside former players and club legends Bob Lenarduzzi and Carl Valentine and everyone’s favourite mascot, Spike!
Be sure to stop by the corner of Burrard and Georgia in downtown Vancouver on your daily commute to collect your morning newspaper.
