Raise-A-Reader Harvey Cannon

Whitecaps FC take part in highly successful Raise-A-Reader Day

Thanks to all the Whitecaps FC fans that came out to support Raise-a-Reader Day!

Today’s Raise-a-Reader campaign was a very successful one, as Whitecaps FC representatives handed out newspapers in exchange for donations at the corner of Burrard and Georgia. ‘Caps Goalkeeper Joe Cannon and defender Jordan Harvey were on hand, as well as Whitecaps FC president Bob Lenarduzzi and club ambassador Carl Valentine – the latter two also of course both being legendary former ‘Caps players.  Adding to the excitement was Whitecaps mascot Spike. Across the street was the Vancouver Police Department, including Chief Constable Jim Chu, while Vancouver Canucks mascot Fin and several Canucks players made an appearance to help support the cause.

It was wonderful to see a number of fans excited to not only come out and meet a couple of their favourite players, but also to help support the drive to increase literacy. Whitecaps FC members were all smiles as they collected donations, signed autographs and posed for pictures with their biggest fans.  It was also an entertaining morning, as Spike and Fin banded together to capture the attention of onlookers – even hopping into the back of a pick-up truck stopped at a red light. Before departing, ‘Caps members spoke with Chris Gailus on the Global BC Morning News.

Overall, the event was a super success. It was greatly appreciated to see so many people take the time out of their morning to donate to the Raise-A-Reader program. So thank you to everyone for helping to improve your community today!
