Honouring a Wish

Sunday, October 2nd, was not just a big day for Vancouver Whitecaps FC, but also for Darcy Ablak of Bowen Island, BC. Thanks to the Make-a-Wish Foundation and EA SPORTS, Darcy attended the first match on Bell Pitch downtown at BC Place.

The 18-year-old started off the day by being whisked off to the EA SPORTS suite, which was full of food and really gave him the VIP experience. About an hour before kickoff, he was given a tour of the new stadium, including the ‘Caps new dressing room! The trainers and coaches were waiting for Darcy there, where he was given his own official Whitecaps FC jersey - complete with his name adorning the back. He was also able to take in an up close and personal view of the pre-match show from pitch side. After the opening performance, Darcy assisted in the coin toss before heading back up to the EA SPORTS suite to enjoy the match.

The real highlights came after the match as he was able to meet some of his favourite players, who signed his new ‘Caps jersey and Whitecaps FC ball.

Finally, Darcy got the chance to kick the ball around on the pitch with visits from Whitecaps FC chief executive officer Paul Barber and president Bob Lenarduzzi, along with various ‘Caps staff members, who enjoyed kicking the ball around on the pitch with him.
