Hassli among top three in MLS Newcomer of the Year

NEW YORK, NY - Major League Soccer today named Seattle Sounders FC midfielder Mauro Rosales the 2011 MLS Newcomer of the Year ahead of fellow finalists Luke Rodgers (New York) and Vancouver's own Eric Hassli. The award honours the player with previous professional experience who makes the biggest impact in his first season in Major League Soccer.

More than 80 players joined MLS clubs from leagues abroad, including 11 new Designated Players, 35 players with national team experience, and players born in 32 different countries. Collectively, this year’s newcomers averaged 25.9 years of age.

Hassli, in his first season in MLS, scored 10 goals and added two assists in 26 MLS regular season matches for Vancouver. Hassli's first season in North America is highlighted by his wonder-goal against Cascadia Cup rivals Seattle Sounders FC on June 11 - CLICK HERE to see Hassli's goal.
