'Caps Chronicle: Cascadia duel heats up

'Caps Chronicle - Feb. 7, 2012

WHITECAPS FC IN THE NEWS:

It may have only been a preseason matchup yesterday against Seattle, but when two teams from Cascadia meet on the pitch it can hardly be described as a friendly, as one reporter noted, "The Cascadia Cup rivalry takes no games off, even in the preseason." (Ives Galarcep - Soccer by Ives)

The friendly featured three different groups for each of the 45-minute halves and the additional 30-minute session. Read who made the lineup that The Province's Marc Weber described as, "giving Vancouver fans their first real indication of what an opening-day lineup could look like for season two." (Marc Weber - The Province)

The intensity was immediately high as the I-5 adversaries dueled it out on the pitch with Camilo setting the tempo early on, slotting the ball between the posts only 35 seconds into the match. Camilo’s goal gave Whitecaps FC a one goal lead at the end of the first half, but Seattle were able to finally pull one back in the second half to end the game in a 1:1 draw. "Overall I think it was a good game against a very good team. Both teams worked hard and took it seriously and I think everybody's got to be happy with that," Whitecaps coach Martin Rennie told reporters after the match.
