Vancouver Whitecaps FC, in conjunction with Major League Soccer, announced today the schedule for the 2012 MLS Reserve League season. Whitecaps FC reserves will again play in the Western Conference, beginning their season away to LA Galaxy reserves on Monday, March 19.
Whitecaps FC reserves will play 10 matches in MLS Reserve League play, facing each of their Western Conference opponents twice - once home and once away. The ‘Caps will play four home matches at the University of British Columbia’s Thunderbird Stadium, and one home match at Burnaby’s Swangard Stadium.
Whitecaps FC reserves open their home schedule on Monday, March 26, against Seattle Sounders FC reserves at Thunderbird Stadium. Additional home matches are set for Sunday, April 22, versus Portland Timbers reserves at Swangard Stadium, followed by three matches at Thunderbird Stadium: Tuesday, June 12, against LA Galaxy reserves; Monday, July 23 against Chivas USA reserves; and Monday, September 10 against San Jose Earthquakes reserves. Kickoff will be 11 a.m. PT for every match at Thunderbird Stadium, and 3 p.m. PT for the April 22 match at Swangard Stadium.
Teams may, at their discretion, schedule additional exhibition matches for their reserve squads against non-MLS opponents.
The MLS Reserve League will again be divided into Eastern, Central, and Western Conferences, with each team playing all matches within their own conference. The club list for each division can be found below.
At the conclusion of the Reserve League season, the team with the most points out of all three conferences will be determined the Reserve League champions. As in Major League Soccer, three points is awarded for a win, one point for a draw, and no points for a loss.
