'Caps Chronicle: Versatility and Reliability

'Caps Chronicle - Feb. 24, 2012

WHITECAPS FC IN THE NEWS:

Atiba Harris was having a career season last year with Whitecaps FC until he had a devastating knee injury. Two goals and three assists, all in a five match span, was an outstanding start for the striker. Once he got injured, the club and Harris both decided to err on the side of caution. However, he trained all off-season in LA, and now his versatility and reliability are viewed as key parts of a Whitecaps FC team looking to get off to a good start in 2012. Defence was coach Martin Rennie’s focus in Casa Grande, however offence is the name of the game in Florida as the staff explore the squad's multiple attacking options. With such offensive stars as Camilo, Hassli, and Le Toux coupled with Rennie’s attacking style, you can expect to see an exciting level of soccer each time the ‘Caps take the pitch. Jay DeMerit can’t wait for First Kick on Saturday, March 10, versus rivals Montreal Impact. “Overall, it's positive because we've added experience and quality and those things, at certain times last year, I felt we lacked,” DeMerit said in an interview with The Canadian Press. ‘Caps supporters should be just as excited, with just a little over two weeks left to First Kick. Young-Pyo Lee, Sebastien Le Toux, and Rick Celebrini. What do these guys have in common? Well, they were all key off-season additions to Whitecaps FC. However, the addition of Dr. Celebrini may be the biggest and best off-season signing. Marc Weber tells you why in his article. (Marc Weber- The Province)

WHITECAPS FC IN THE HOUSE:

This weekend is a huge one for Whitecaps FC, as they have two preseason tilts on tap in sunny Orlando, Florida. The first of those matches is today versus Montreal Impact. This match will act as interesting precursor to First Kick on Saturday, March 10. Whitecaps FC will then face the reigning Eastern Conference champions Houston Dynamo on Sunday. This will be a tough test for the ‘Caps, as Houston will be riding high with the return of their former captain Brian Ching. Make sure you check out the match previews.
