2012 Whitecaps FC College Showcase begins this weekend

Girls Elite

This weekend mark’s the third year of the girls edition of the Whitecaps FC College Showcase, taking place at Surrey’s Newton Athletic Park.


The action kicks off on Saturday, as eight EA SPORTS BC Soccer Premier League matches will take place, beginning with Coquitlam Metro-Ford and Fusion FC battling in the U-15 and U-17/18 age groups at 9 a.m. PT. Also included are British Columbia side Kootenay Thunder; Calgary clubs Willowridge-Carburn Soccer Club, National Sports Development Soccer Club, and Calgary Blizzard; and Colorado-based Fort Collins SC Arsenal.  The full schedule for the weekend can be found HERE.


The showcase will also feature the Whitecaps FC U-18 Girls Elite team in action. Saturday’s schedule is headlined by the Girls Elite squad facing the University of the Fraser Valley at 1 p.m. PT on Field #1. On Sunday the U-18 ‘Caps will play two matches, first facing a squad consisting of Whitecaps FC women’s alumni at 11 a.m. PT, followed by an afternoon affair with Fort Collins SC Arsenal at 5 p.m. PT.


“This is a great opportunity to showcase talented players from inside and outside the province to some top schools,” said Jesse Symons, head coach of the Whitecaps FC women’s team and Girls Elite program. “For our Girls Elite team, we’ll be looking to continue progressing with our philosophies in the Whitecaps program, working on a possession-based style with attacking flair.”
