Mattocks out with injury

VANCOUVER, BC - Vancouver Whitecaps FC confirmed today that striker Darren Mattocks suffered burns to his upper right arm and shoulder on the evening of Sunday, March 18, while preparing dinner.

The 21-year-old Jamaican striker was admitted to a local hospital and is currently being assessed and treated.

“It was an unfortunate accident, but Darren is handling everything well and remains in good spirits,” said Whitecaps FC head coach Martin Rennie. “We will have a better understanding on the recovery time and course of action later in the week, but we fully anticipate Darren to make a complete recovery in due time.”

Mattocks joined Whitecaps FC last January after being selected second overall in the2012 Major League Soccer SuperDraft. This season, Mattocks made his MLS debut late in the second half of the ’Caps season-opening 2-0 victory over Montreal Impact.
