Dear Supporters,
It is with great pleasure that I write to you today as the newly appointed executive chair of Vancouver Whitecaps FC. Soccer has been a lifelong passion of mine; I can still name England’s starting XI at the 1966 FIFA World Cup the one and only time they lifted that trophy! It’s truly the world’s game – a sport every country plays – and I am thrilled to be a member of this organization which has been a dynamic part of our city’s fabric for close to four decades.
Vancouver Whitecaps FC has touched the lives of thousands of individuals in this province and country. Through its camps, clinics, school programs, the players from the men’s, women’s, and residency teams, who are role models for athletes and people of all ages, Whitecaps FC have and continue to inspire and unite British Columbians and Canadians through the power of sport. Soccer is our passion – here we live it!
From its inception in 1974, to winning the NASL Soccer Bowl in 1979, to launching its first season in Major League Soccer in 2011, the club has had a long and celebrated history. In this second season in MLS, the future looks promising. We kicked off our first full season in our new, state-of-the-art, soccer specific home at BC Place. We also have secured a talented head coach and technical staff to work with an experienced and dynamic roster. There is no greater time than now to be a fan of this club. You are our bench strength – the team needs you!
I myself am a season ticket holder of Whitecaps FC, and have enjoyed taking in matches with family and friends. I have witnessed first-hand the unique atmosphere and culture in the stadium, and believe that this club can continue to grow and inspire on and off the pitch.
Effective immediately, I join club president Bob Lenarduzzi, and chief operating officer Rachel Lewis, as executive chair as we work together to drive the club forward. I will also play an active strategic role with the club’s committed ownership group building for today and tomorrow.
I encourage all fans to come out to our matches and continue to support the club. Bring your friends. Your support inspires all of us. This is your club.
