Early in this 2012 season, the Blue and White have been applauded for their stellar defensive work as they set a new MLS record for most consecutive minutes without conceding a goal to start a season. The back four played has played a huge role in establishing the ‘Caps new defensive identity, especially the partnership betweenJay DeMeritandMartin Bonjour. Bonjour is fitting in nicely to his new surroundings in Vancouver and letting his footwork do the talking for him while he learns English to better communicate on the field. Assistant CoachPaul Ritchiehad a busy bye week as he travelled overseas to continue his courses in obtaining his UEFA Pro License. Ritchie took part in tactics and scenario discussions with top managers such as Everton manager David Moyes. In obtaining UEFA licenses and working with such experienced managersthe ‘Caps assistant coach looks like he will be a great manager in the future whether it’s in the MLS or overseas. The ‘Caps academy announced the addition of 17 players to a brand new U-13 academy team with this addition the blue and white now have a U-13 team in addition to their U-14, U-15, U-16 and U-18 residency teams.Check out this exciting roster of new young players added to the ‘Caps development program. The ‘Caps residency program received some more good news as four players from the U-16 squad were called up for Canadian National Team duty for the U-17 training camp. Eric Hassli, rarely takes a day off from soccer, and this bye week was no different for the Frenchman as he practised, prepping for this mid-week showdown against league leaders Sporting Kansas City.
