With the first team on a two-week break, Vancouver Whitecaps FC reserves (3W-3L-1D) visit Chivas USA reserves (3W-2L-2D) for their lone MLS Reserve League match of the month on Friday morning. Kickoff is set for 10 a.m. PT from The Home Depot Center Field #4 in Carson, California.

The ‘Caps second string, who trail leaders Chivas USA reserves by just one point, will be looking to jump back into first place in the Reserve League’s West Division standings after dropping their previous encounter with the Goats’ second string.

Despite dominating much of the first half, the ‘Caps fell 3-1 to Chivas USA reserves on at UBC Thunderbird Stadium on July 23. 16-year-old midfielder Kianz Froese scored the lone goal of the match for the Blue and White.

After back-to-back home defeats, returning to the road may be a blessing in disguise for the ‘Caps reserves, who have posted a perfect 3W-0L-0D record away from home this season.

“With a reserve game, we want guys to approach it in a very professional way,” said Whitecaps FC assistant coach Jake DeClute, who will take charge of the reserve squad on Friday. “We take reserve games really seriously. Chivas fields a really good reserve side - probably one of the strongest we played, so we really want to go for it and we really want to have a strong performance from all the guys.”

‘Caps Designated Player Kenny Miller (pictured) will be available for selection once again after playing 45 minutes in his Reserve League debut on July 23, as will striker Atiba Harris, who is fit again after undergoing successful knee surgery in May.

DeClute’s squad will also include two members of the Whitecaps FC U-23 side that recently completed the club’s 2012 United Soccer Leagues Premier Development League campaign and two trialist.

The ‘Caps reserves have just one home match remaining in their 2012 Reserve League season. They host San Jose Earthquakes reserves at UBC Thunderbird Stadium on Monday, September 10, before concluding their season at LA Galaxy reserves on Sunday, October 7. Admission for the September 10 match is free of charge.
