Over the past couple of weeks you could find these girls, along with their families and friends, at the Ladner Village Market days, outside the Ladner Save-On-Foods and Ladner liquor store, or putting up flyers to gain votes and support for their team.

As announced on CTV's Morning Live show earlier today (September 5), the U-10 Ladner Storm’s hard work and dedication has paid in full. Titled the BMO Team of the Week 2012 Champions, the Storm received $125,000 toward upgrading a community soccer field, $5,000 to a charity of their choice, and a team trip to a Canadian Major League Soccer or Canadian national team home match. Whitecaps FC defender Carlyle Mitchell was on hand for the cheque presentation.

The group selected BC Children’s Hospital as the recipient of the $5,000 donation made on their behalf.

2012 was the second year for BMO Team of the Week, a contest that seeks to reward youth soccer teams who demonstrate team pride, team spirit, community commitment, and passion for the game.

Beginning on April 18, 15 weekly winners were announced, and between August 13 and 27 Canadians across the country voted for their top team. Ladner Storm began the contest in a modest 13th place but confidently rose to 1st place on the final day of voting.

Ladner Storm have proven themselves as praiseworthy role models for other girls in their sport, and the celebration of youth soccer in their community and province.
