Whitecaps FC take part in story time at Terry Salman library

'Caps story time

Waiting inside Terry Salmon library, a group of excited children and their equally excited parents bubbled with anticipation for the ‘Caps to arrive. Once settled down, ‘Caps goalkeeper Joe Cannon, midfielder Michael Nanchoff, and club legend Carl Valentine perched on pint-sized chairs to captivate their audience with their favourite storybook tales.

The kids were laughing, jumping, and making funny faces throughout the interactive storytelling session, which concluded with Michael’s exciting read of The Juggling Pug by Sean Byran.

Today’s visit at Vancouver’s Terry Salman Library, was in preparation and support of next week’s Raise-A-Reader campaign. The 16th annual Raise-A-Reader campaign aims to raise funds and awareness for child and family literacy programs in British Columbia.

This year’s event will take place on Thursday, September 20, 2012.  The ‘Caps own Bob Lenarduzzi, Carl Valentine, mascot Spike, and MLS players will be downtown on the corner of Georgia and Burrard selling copies of the Vancouver Sun in exchange for donations.

With 100% of proceeds going back toward the community, the ‘Caps are encouraging all fans to join in downtown next Thursday to help support a remarkable cause.
