300 coaches attend Coaching Clinic presented by Tim Hortons

The roof was open with blue sky overhead as 300 coaches filed into BC place stadium Sunday morning for the inaugural Whitecaps FC Coaching Clinic presented by Tim Hortons. With complementary notebooks in hand, the coaches took their seats in the stands and watched closely as ‘Caps assistant coach Paul Ritchie and club ambassador Carl Valentine introduced and transitioned them through six demonstrational coaching sessions.


“We had a great turn out today. It's pleasing o see a number of coaches dedicated to supporting the improvement of youth soccer," said Valentine. "Our knowledgeable coaching staff were more than happy to share their own tips and skills. A clinic like this is a positive and informative way to help other coaches take bring back new drills back to their own teams."


Over an instructional two and a half hours, Ritchie and fellow Whitecaps FC coaches  Jake Declute, Carl Robinson, Marius Rovde, Craig Dalrymple, Bart Choufour, Rich Fagan, Martn Nash, Steve Meadley and Leigh Sembaluk, led Whitecaps FC Pre-Residency players through drills that covered short passes, dribbling, possession, shooting and one-on-one attacking.Participants were encouraged to watch closely and take notes, with Whitecaps FC coaching staff addressing all questions at the end.
