Whitecaps FC duo called up for Caribbean Cup duty

VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC striker Darren Mattocks and central defender Carlyle Mitchell have been called up by their respective countries to take part in this month’s Caribbean Cup in Antigua & Barbuda.


Mattocks, 22, will represent Jamaica while 25-year-old Mitchell will line up for Trinidad & Tobago in the eight-team tournament that runs from December 7 to December 16.

Entering the competition, Mitchell has 10 international caps to his name while Mattocks has made two appearances for the Reggae Boyz.


Trinidad & Tobago are in Group A and face Haiti (December 7), Antigua & Barbuda (December 9) and lastly the Dominican Republic (December 11).


Jamaica are in Group B and are scheduled to play French Guiana (December 8), Martinique (December 10) and finally Cuba on December 12.


The top two teams from each group will advance to the semifinal stage on December 14, with the Cup final to be played two days later.


The four nations that reach the semifinal stage will qualify for the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup, which will be held in the United States in July.
