Eric Hassli returns Saturday at BC Place

Eric Hassli is set to make his much-anticipated return to BC Place this coming Saturday, as Whitecaps FC host his FC Dallas squad in the second of back-to-back matches between the growing rivals.


The big Frenchman was a fan favourite and had some incredible moments over the two seasons he spent with the club. As a prelude to this weekend’s clash, we take a look back at some of Hassli’s greatest moments as a member of the Blue and White.


5.    The Inaugural Match (vs. Toronto FC, March 19, 2011)


In Whitecaps FC’s inaugural match at Empire Field, Eric Hassli put on a two-goal performance in a 4-1 win for the Blue and White. Although the rest of the season did not go as well as hoped, it was a strong showing for the new MLS franchise and a sign of an interesting two years to come for the Frenchman in Vancouver.

4.    The Good and the Bad (vs. New England Revolution, April 6, 2011)


In the 'Caps third ever home match in MLS, Whitecaps FC went down a man when Gershon Koffie was shown a red card. However, the 'Caps were given a great opportunity to take the lead when Camilo earned a penalty kick. Hassli converted for the 1-0 lead, but removed his jersey and earned a second yellow and subsequent red card, reducing Vancouver to nine men. The 'Caps and Revs went on to a 1-1 draw.

3.    The Last Minute Winner (vs. San Jose Earthquakes, May 5, 2012)


On May 5, 2012, Hassli scored in the final moments of the match to give the ‘Caps a victory against eventual Supporters Shield winners San Jose Earthquakes. The goal caused BC Place to erupt, as fans were instantly brought to their feet to celebrate the exciting victory.






2.    The Wonder Goal (vs. Toronto FC, May 16, 2012)


What. A. Strike. Hassli’s incredible volley against Toronto FC on May 16, 2012 was a goal to remember and was nominated for the 2012 FIFA Puskás Award for World Goal of the Year. Although he did not capture the hardware, he certainly captured the attention of soccer fans around the world.

1.    The Original Wonder Goal (vs. Seattle Sounders FC, June 11, 2011)


Hassli scored 12 goals over two seasons with the ‘Caps. One of those 12 was this beauty against Seattle on June 11, 2011. It was an amazing strike and one that will be remembered by ‘Caps fans for a long time to come.
