VANCOUVER WHITECAPS FC

Whitecaps FC have won their first two matches of the campaign having beaten Real Salt Lake 2-0 on April 13 with goals from Jordan Harvey and Erik Hurtado before registering an impressive 2-1 away win at Colorado on May 7 with Kekuta Manneh and Tommy Heinemann getting the goals.

Including the preseason friendlies and scrimmages, Vancouver have won seven matches out of the eight that they’ve played in a run that stretches back to March.

PORTLAND TIMBERS

The Timbers currently hold a 3W-1L-0D record going into the weekend’s match against Whitecaps FC. They have registered wins against Seattle Sounders (1-0), San Jose Earthquakes (2-1) and USL PRO side VSI Tampa Bay (2-1) but lost against Colorado Rapids (1-0).

Portland Timbers Reserves top scorer is a familiar face in Vancouver. Winger Michael Nanchoff has claimed three goals fir Portland this season including a game-winning brace against San Jose.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

Whitecaps FC hold a 1W-3L-0D record against their Cascadian rivals. In 2011, both team’s inaugural seasons in the MLS Reserve League, the Timbers took the spoils with late goals in both matches.

In the 2012 MLS Reserve League season the teams played each other twice with the away side claiming the victory each time.

Portland visited Swangard Stadium in April 2012 and came away with the three points with a 3-0 win before Whitecaps FC got revenge with a 2-1 victory in Portland with Floyd Franks and Darren Mattocks getting the goals.

NEXT UP

Following the match against Portland, Whitecaps FC Reserves will take on Chivas USA Reserves in their next MLS Reserve League match. Kickoff is at 11 a.m. PT on Wednesday June 5 at UBC Thunderbird Stadium.
