The New York Red Bulls put their long undefeated streak on the line when they entertain Vancouver Whitecaps FC on Saturday evening in Harrison. The Red Bulls extended their unbeaten run to seven games in league play last weekend with a last-gasp, 2-2 home draw with Columbus, then advanced in the U.S. Open Cup at midweek. Whitecaps FC return to league play coming off a 2-2 home draw with Portland two weeks ago, though they had their Canadian Championship hopes dashed at midweek, losing on away goals to the Montréal Impact.

NEW YORK RED BULLS
The New York Red Bulls extended their undefeated run to seven games with yet another dramatic result, this time getting a late equalizer for a 2-2 draw with the Columbus Crew on Sunday afternoon at Red Bull Arena. The Red Bulls are in first place in the Eastern Conference with 25 points from 15 matches.
LAST MATCH
- Columbus took the lead just two minutes in. Latching onto a loose pass some 35 yards out from goal, Dominic Oduro managed to weave his way in between the Red Bulls defense before slotting a shot past goalkeeper Luis Robles.
- The Red Bulls came up with an impressive response just after the half-hour mark. Tim Cahill hit a ball over the top from inside his own half that fell to Thierry Henry, who proceeded to loop a beautiful lob over Crew netminder Andy Gruenebaum from just outside the box.
- The Crew took the lead in the 73rd minute after Red Bulls right back Kosuke Kimura was whistled for a foul on Crew forward Justin Meram inside the penalty area by referee Geoff Gamble, and Federico Higuaín stepped up to take it, shooting down the middle as the Red Bulls 'keeper dove to his right.
- But once again the Red Bulls found a late goal to snatch a point. In the second minute of stoppage time, Jonny Steele's cross fell to Jámison Olave and he calmly brought it down with his right before smashing it into the back of the net with his left to leave the teams level.
- Red Bulls head coach Mike Petke made two changes to the team that defeated the LA Galaxy 1-0 at Red Bull Arena. Heath Pearce came into the back four for Roy Miller, and Dax McCarty started in midfield in place of Juninho.

- While the Red Bulls extended their league undefeated run to seven games, having not lost since April 17, they reached a draw for a second time in three contests.
- We’ve had a very good run so far. It’s still good we’re still unbeaten,” said Red Bulls head coach Mike Petke. “I would say by their estimation as well, it wasn’t good. It goes on me as well as a coach, maybe I didn’t prepare them right this week. Maybe we underestimated them. Or just maybe it was just one of those days you have, you know?”
- Thierry Henry scored his team-leading sixth goal of the season, now tied for third place in the MLS Golden Boot standings, scoring his third goal in the last four games.
- “I think we have been having a good run but you have to say today we didn’t play particularly well. Like I said to you, I feel like we should have won the game,” Henry said. “You have to give Columbus credit, they came with a plan and they did it well, it wasn’t good enough, especially the way we started with the goal we gave away.”
- Tim Cahill continued his rich vein of form, collecting his third assist of the season on Henry’s goal. Over the seven-game undefeated streak, Cahill has four goals and two assists.
- “(Henry) always makes the move. He shows every time, whether he comes deep. You know I tried to curl it back around the defender and it stopped perfect for him and it was a great finish,” said Cahill. “I think that’s what he needs, he needs the service and we got a great goal from him.”
- Jámison Olave scored his fourth goal of the season – his first since April 13. The four goals mark a new single-season high in MLS for the center back; he had three goals in both 2009 and 2010 for Real Salt Lake. “When I was playing for Real Salt Lake I would usually get one or two goals per season, now I have four this season and I’m very happy that I’m being able to score,” Olave said.
- Returning from injury, Dax McCarty made his first start since April 20, playing an hour in a deep-lying midfield role.
- On Wednesday, the Red Bulls advanced to the fourth round of the U.S. Open Cup following a 2-0 win against Reading United AC of PDL. Fabian Espindola and Lloyd Sam scored midway through the second half to send the Red Bulls on their way.

Vancouver Whitecaps FC return to league action after a weekend away, their last match a 2-2 draw with the Portland Timbers on May 18 at BC Place. Whitecaps FC sit in eighth place in the Western Conference with 13 points from 11 matches.

- Whitecaps FC took the lead in the 24th minute. Timbers midfielder Will Johnson fouled Camilo just outside the area on the right side, and he took the resulting freekick himself, curling it over the wall and into the top right corner.
- The Timbers pulled even in the 62nd minute. Will Johnson created the penalty with a shot that struck Andy O'Brien's arm as it bent goalward, and then took his own spot kick and leveled the score.
- But moments later, Vancouver again nosed in front. This time Gershon Koffie bent a shot into the top right corner of Donovan Ricketts’ goal after Camilo teed him up at the edge of the area.
- Ten minutes later, Whitecaps FC went up a man when Futty Danso appeared to bring Camilo down as they both chased down a ball over the top toward the Portland goal.
- Yet the Timbers had the final answer. Jose Adolfo Valencia ran under Will Johnson's high, hopeful ball and and brought it under control before cutting back past a defender and slotting home coolly past Brad Knighton.
- Whitecaps FC head coach Martin Rennie made five changes to the team that knocked off the LA Galaxy 3-1 at BC Place. Brad Knighton replaced Joe Cannon between the posts, Brad Rusin and Jordan Harvey came into the back four for Alain Rochat and the suspended Johnny Leveron, and Russell Teibert and Erik Hurtado started up top for Daigo Kobayashi and Darren Mattocks.

- Despite being pegged back for the late draw, Whitecaps FC remained undefeated at BC Place this season, with three wins and three draws, one of three teams still unbeaten at home this season (along with Montréal and FC Dallas).
- “I thought we played really well today. We created some chances, and we put our chances away, just one lack of concentration cost us two points,” said goalkeeper Brad Knighton.
- Knighton made his first league start of the season, starting in goal in place of Joe Cannon. Knighton had played all three Canadian Championship matches before the Portland game.
- “He needs to continue to train hard and keeping working on his game,” Rennie said. “The results of the team often impact the lineup as well, but he needs to keep doing what he’s doing. His presence is good, he’s doing well on crosses, and he’s making the saves that he should make. His kicking’s good – all those things are generally good. He just needs to keep working on that and keep having confidence.”
- Camilo Sanvezzo was given the start as the spearhead in attack in the center of the front three, and came through with his third goal of the season, directly from a free kick, while also adding his first assist of the season. It was the fifth time in MLS play he scored a goal and assisted on one in the same game.
- “He was fresh from the week and scored quite a few goals recently. I thought he could hold the ball up a little bit better for us and to be honest I thought he did really really well. That was one of the best performances I’ve seen by him,” said Rennie. “I think a lot of times people see him as a wide left player but he plays inside and there were a lot of times to find him with his low center of gravity.”
- Said Camilo: “It’s a long time I didn’t play there. I do my best, hold the ball, play short – and I think we had a very good game.”
- Gershon Koffie scored his second goal of the season, his first since hitting for the only goal in the season-opening win vs. Toronto FC.
- Jordan Harvey made his first league start of the season, coming in at left back after making his season debut against LA. Brad Rusin also returned to the lineup after missing two starts to injury.
- On Wednesday, the Montréal Impact won the Voyageurs’ Cup, emblematic of the Canadian Championship, for the first time since coming to MLS following a 2-2 draw with Whitecaps FC at BC Place, winning the series on away goals after a 2-2 tie on aggregate.
- Camilo gave Whitecaps FC the lead after four minutes, but Felipe pulled the Impact back to level four minutes after the second-half restart. Daigo Kobayashi gave Vancouver the lead again in the 69th minute, but Hassoun Camara’s goal six minutes from the end gave the Impact the title.
