Fantasy Forecast: Round 16

FantasyForecast16

Double game week is upon us!

Here's a great spot midway through the long grueling season to gain a significant advantage on your competitors. Hopefully you've planned ahead so you can fully maximize your transfers and starting 11. Our focus this week is on bargain buys to help maximize your salary-cap, while still positioning you for big point hauls.

Chris Klute ($5.0m), Colorado Rapids – The Rapids’ defense has been stellar this year and leads the Western Conference with the lowest goals against (GA) after conceding only 12 times in 14 matches this season. Klute has three clean sheets in his last five games, and recently earned back to back assists after twice setting up teammate Atiba Harris ($7.6m). Facing the San Jose Earthquakes (13 goals this season) and the Chicago Fire (11 goals this season) we like his chances on a clean sheet and his ability to get forward.

Justin Mapp ($7.0m), Montreal Impact – How this man continues to fly under the radar is beyond me. Mapp has had two goals and three assists, tallying thirty-seven fantasy points in his last five games. It's irrelevant who he plays against as he's had a knack for contributing against anyone, good and bad. At his price and his hot streak he is an absolute must have for a double game week. He's one of the biggest reasons why the Impact are top of the Eastern Conference.

Team Of The Week (Round 16), Vancouver Whitecaps – Such an easy pick this week, with the Whitecaps at home with favourable opponents Chivas USA and the New England Revolution. While the ‘Caps defense may have suffered a setback with the loss of Andy O’Brien last weekend, optimism is certainly high for their ability to score goals. In the last 3-4 weeks forward Camilo Sanvezzo ($7.9m) and midfielder Russell Teibert ($5.4m) have run the show. The dynamic duo showed great chemistry in finding each other in a gut wrenching 3-2 loss to the Seattle Sounders. Heading into a double week these two are the must have players on your squad and either could be considered as your captain for the week.

If you're looking for a more outside of the box approach, a healthy Kenny Miller ($7.9m) is an interesting play. Miller has only scored three times on the season, but at a rate of one goal for every 130 minutes of play you have to like his chances of striking hot again this round. On defense the option to consider is Jordan Harvey ($4.5m). At his price he's a nice gamble and should fit into any starting 11.

That’s it for this week, as always good luck in Round 16 Fantasy Managers and let’s keep the Whitecaps Fantasy League one of the highest ranked in MLS!
