Johnny Leveron called up to Honduras for World Cup qualifying match

VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced today that centre back Johnny Leverón has been called up by Honduras for their World Cup qualifying match against the United States this coming Tuesday, June 18 at Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy, Utah.


The native of Yoro, Honduras, has made 22 international appearances for his country and scored three goals since making his debut in 2010.


Leveron will join up with his national squad on Sunday following Saturday’s Whitecaps FC match against New England Revolution at BC Place. The 5-foot-11 centre back will then return to Vancouver on Wednesday and will be eligible to feature in Vancouver’s match against Chivas USA at BC Place that evening.


Playing his first year in MLS, Leveron joined Whitecaps FC on February 13, 2013 from Club Deportivo Motagua in the Honduran Liga Nacional. Leveron has started all four of his appearances so far in MLS, as well as four starting appearances in the Amway Canadian Championship.
