The second Cascadia Cup meeting of the season is ahead between Vancouver Whitecaps FC and Seattle Sounders FC on Saturday evening at BC Place. Whitecaps FC return home having extended their undefeated run to four games at midweek in a 1-1 draw at Sporting Kansas City. Sounders FC also saw action at midweek, gaining a 2-0 home win vs. D.C. United. Whitecaps FC are looking for their first win ever against Sounders FC since both clubs came to MLS.

- The teams are meeting for the second time in less than a month. Lamar Neagle’s late goal capped a comeback and gave Sounders FC a 3-2 victory before a crowd of better than 53,000 on June 8 at CenturyLink Field.
- Whitecaps FC have yet to defeat their Cascadia rivals to the south since coming to MLS. Sounders FC have won three of the six meetings all-time, with three draws.
- Seattle won 2-0 last Aug. 18 at CenturyLink Field, their first home win vs. Vancouver. Sounders FC have won one of the three meetings in Vancouver, a 3-1 win at Empire Field in 2011. Both meetings at BC Place have ended in draws.
- The clubs have a rivalry dating back to 1974 in the old North American Soccer League, and continuing through the A-League and USL First Division.

- Sounders FC jumped out to a lead after just nine minutes, striking on the counter. Lamar Neagle sent a weighted ball to Andy Rose as he streaked behind the Whitecaps defense and he finished inside the back post.
- Whitecaps FC hit back just one minute later. Russell Teibert and Lee Young-Pyo created space down the right, then Teibert found Camilo Sanvezzo with a well-placed cross at the back post for a wide-open header.
- The visitors took the lead in the 26th minute. This time from a free kick, Teibert swung in a ball from about 30 yards out that again found the head of Camilo, who was able to slip between two defenders and score with a dramatic diving header.
- But Seattle brought the score back to level in the 70th minute after Neagle drew a penalty after being taken down by Greg Klazura in the area. Servando Carrasco calmly stepped up and rifled his shot into the top of the net for his first MLS goal.
- The comeback was completed 11 minutes later. After a sustained run of Seattle pressure, Obafemi Martins took a clever pass from Rose at the top of the box, then laced a low cross into the six. Neagle was on the spot, beating his defender to the near post to lash home the game-winner.

Vancouver Whitecaps FC saw their winning streak ended but stretched their undefeated run to four games, reaching a 1-1 draw with Sporting Kansas City on Wednesday evening at Sporting Park. Whitecaps FC sit in fourth place in the Western Conference with 26 points from 17 matches.

- Sporting took the lead on 35 minutes. Chance Myers headed a long ball to Aurelien Collin at the corner of the 6-yard box, and while his first shot deflected off defender Johnny Leverón, the defender collected the rebound and put it past Vancouver goalkeeper Brad Knighton.
- But Whitecaps FC drew level just before halftime. From a freekick some 25 yards straight out from goal, Camilo delivered a dipping blast into the upper right of the goal that SKC goalkeeper Jimmy Nielsen could only watch.
- Whitecaps FC head coach Martin Rennie made two changes to the team that held on for a 1-0 win against D.C. United at RFK Stadium. Brad Rusin and Corey Hertzog came into the side in place of Carlyle Mitchell and Russell Teibert.

- Camilo Sanvezzo scored for a fifth consecutive match, this time rattling home a free kick. Sanvezzo now has eight goals and three assists in the last seven games; the goalscoring streak is two games shy of the all-time MLS record held by Raul Diaz Arce, Wolde Harris and Carlos Ruiz.
- “That's his 13th goal in the past 14 competitions, which is an incredible rate,” said Whitecaps FC head coach Martin Rennie. “He works a lot on his free kicks and that was a fantastic hit. It was a great goal and I don't think there are many people that are going to save that.”
- Said Kenny Miller: “It was fantastic from Camilo to draw us level just before the half. That took the pressure off us a little bit. 1-0 down would have been tough for us to get back in the game, but it was a delightful finish from him.”
- Whitecaps FC return home after a unbeaten two-game road swing, starting with the 1-0 win at D.C. United, having taken seven of a possible 12 points from their last four away matches.
- “We've got four points from two away games. It's always tough with these Eastern Conference doubleheaders. It takes a lot out of you with the traveling, but to get four points out of six on this trip is pleasing,” said Miller. “This was probably a game that we could have won, so we're disappointed in that sense. But in the end we're OK with it.”
- Said Rennie: “In recent games we have been a lot more forward thinking and a lot more dominant in the opposition's half. We have had players scoring goals and we are doing a good job putting them in positions to get chances and again we did that. I just think the team is rolling in belief, but I also think earlier in the season we were playing well and not getting the results we deserved. But the players realized we are a good team and we have a good chance against anybody.”
- It was a seventh game this season where Whitecaps FC rescued points after allowing the opening goal (3-4-4). That matches San Jose for the most points gained this season after conceding first.
- “Our resilience is becoming a habit, not just on the road but at home. We had to come back in our last two home games to get a win as well,” said Miller. “That's something we're pleased about. We've got that character and resilience to come back, but we'd much rather be going two goals up than having to come back all the time.”
- Brad Rusin made his return to the first team, making his first start since May 18, partnering Johnny Leveron in central defense.
- “[Leveron] is another one of our younger players. He is an exciting player. We think he can get a lot better but he is already very good. He is still learning the language and getting acclimatized to the league, but he already at 22 years old, he has played more than 20 times for Honduras. He is a very talented player and he looked fantastic tonight,” said Rennie. “I thought he and Brad Rusin showed a good partnership and that is encouraging for us moving forward.”
- With Russell Teibert on CONCACAF Gold Cup duty with Canada, Corey Hertzog made his first league start since May 4 vs. Real Salt Lake, coming in wide on the right of the attack.
SEATTLE SOUNDERS FC
Seattle Sounders FC returned home and to their winning form, defeating D.C. United 2-0 on Wednesday evening at Rio Tinto Stadium. Sounders FC are in a tie for fifth place in the Western Conference with 24 points from 15 matches.
LAST MATCH
- Sounders FC took the lead after 19 minutes. Brad Evans found Obafemi Martins with a perfectly weighted through ball, and he got behind the United defense before squeezing a shot inside the near post past United 'keeper Joe Willis.
- Martins put the game away for the home side a minute into second-half stoppage time, latching onto a missed clearance attempt from United defender James Riley and lashing home a shot inside the right-hand post.
- Sounders FC head coach Sigi Schmid made one change to the team that suffered a 2-0 defeat by Real Salt Lake at Rio Tinto Stadium. Andy Rose came into the team in place of Lamar Neagle.

- Sounders FC won for a fourth consecutive league game at CenturyLink Field and extended their home undefeated run to six games. After trips to Vancouver and San Jose, they return home for three consecutive matches.
- “Not having played in a while, having played irregularly over the last month – practice is not the same as games – it takes you a while to get your rhythm. I thought we were a little disjointed, and it's one of those games you just have to roll up your sleeves and grind out,” said Sounders FC head coach Sigi Schmid. “You have to take a victory on certain days and say, 'It's not going to be beautiful, it's not going to be necessarily artistic, so we just roll up the sleeves and still get it done.’”
- Obafemi Martins took the Sounders FC team lead with his fifth and sixth goals of the league season, recording his first two-goal game in MLS.
- It was a second consecutive game, and a fourth time this season, where Martins and Eddie Johnson formed the strike pair. In the initial three, Sounders FC did not win a game and were outscored 8-1 as the duo combined for a total of three shots.
- "I think we're still a couple games away, at least a couple games away," said midfielder Brad Evans. "I'd rather the potential be there in five or six or seven games as we inch toward the playoffs, to have those guys get hot and playing off each other so well. It will come with time and it's only going to get better as long as we stay healthy and consistently having the same guys on the field will pay dividends as well."
- Said Martins: “For me, we've been playing well. That's my own opinion, because the fans generally expect more from us. It takes a lot of time because we never played against each other. We're doing well in the training and in the game, we get in there. We have a lot of games to play.”
- DeAndre Yedlin did not appear after returning from the FIFA U-20 World Cup, after suffering a separated shoulder while playing for the USA.
- “With DeAndre, we felt it was better to try and save him for Saturday. His shoulder was a little bit sore. If it was getting better each day, he could have probably played, but at some point he would have been a sub, as well. So we decided not to go with him,” said Schmid.
- Andy Rose made his second start in three matches after going nearly four months without a start, when he was in the first team for the opening three games of the league season.
- “Andy Rose playing a little bit higher, so he can get balls off of them, and we asked the same thing from Shalrie [Joseph], and I thought Shalrie came in and did a good job for us tonight in the last 15-20 minutes,” said Schmid.
- After starting three consecutive matches, Lamar Neagle was also kept on the bench to start, coming on for the final half hour.
- “We thought that Lamar really, at most, had 50-60 minutes in him, so we decided we'd rather bring him off the bench for this game because he's still – was he 100 percent after that injury,” Schmid said. “… We will see how Lamar came through with his 30 minutes today and DeAndre rehabbed today, so we will see how he feels.”
