Vancouver Whitecaps FC Reserves travel to Utah to face Real Salt Lake Reserves

SANDY, UT – Vancouver Whitecaps FC Reserves (3W-0L-3D) continue their 2013 MLS Reserve League campaign with a second encounter against Real Salt Lake Reserves (3W-3L-3D) on Tuesday in Sandy, Utah. Following a dominant 4-0 win over Cascadia rivals Seattle Sounders FC in their last outing, Vancouver will be looking to maintain their imperious form this season where they are still yet to be beaten in MLS Reserve League play.


The teams have already met in 2013 with Whitecaps FC emerging victorious. Goals from Jordan Harvey and Erik Hurtado sealed a 2-0 win in Vancouver’s first MLS Reserve League match of the season.


WHITECAPS FC

Last time out Vancouver saw off Seattle with a 4-0 win in front of over 1,000 fans at Willoughby Community Park next to the Langley Events Centre. Whitecaps FC ran riot with goals from Hurtado and Whitecaps FC U-18 Residency defender Sam Adekugbe, plus a brace from Tommy Heinemann. 17-year-old Residency prospect Marco Bustos also put in an impressive shift supplying two assists on the day.


The win against Seattle broke a run of three straight draws for Whitecaps FC against Portland Timbers (1-1), Chivas USA (3-3) and Richmond Kickers (1-1) after they had opened the campaign with wins against Real Salt Lake (2-0) and Colorado Rapids(2-1).


Whitecaps FC have brought back a pair of on-loan players for the match in midfielder Bryce Alderson and defender Emmanuel Adjtey from Charleston Battery. Joining them will be Battery teammate Colin Falvey on trial. Tuesday's affair will also see the first appearances in Whitecaps FC colours for 'Caps 2013 MLS Supplemental Draft picks Josh Patterson and Alejandro Sucre.

REAL SALT LAKE

Real Salt Lake have been out of action for over a month having last played on June 15 when they drew 0-0 with United Soccer Leagues (USL) PRO outfit Phoenix FC.


The Claret and Cobalt started the season with back-to-back victories but won only once in their next seven matches.


Young striker Devon Sandoval and midfielder Sebastian Velasquez lead the team with two goals apiece whilst striker Olmes Garcia, who scored at BC Place in a 1-1 MLS draw, has also contributed to the team's attack.


HEAD-TO-HEAD

With this being the first season that Real Salt Lake have competed in the MLS Reserve League's Western division after previously being in the Central/Mountain division, April’s match was the first meeting between the sides at this level. Vancouver’s 2-0 win gives the Blue and White a record of 1W-0L-0D.
