Super 8 Invitational Farris

VANCOUVER – Approximately 200 participants took part in the Whitecaps FC Super 8 Invitational presented by Farris this past weekend at the Simon Fraser University-based Whitecaps FC Regional Training Centre.

A two-day eight aside tournament for select U-11 and U-12-aged boys and girls, the Super 8 Invitational serves as a sanctioned selection event for the Danone Nations Cup – widely recognized as the world’s largest international youth soccer tournament.

A total of 16 teams participated in weekend tournament and the names of 25 players will be passed on for consideration. Representatives from Whitecaps FC’s Residency program were also on hand scouting the event.

"One of the club's mandates has always been to support the local soccer community and provide opportunities for young boys and girls to gain exposure and move forward in their respective careers," said Dan Lenarduzzi, the club's director of soccer development. "The Super 8 Invitational presented by Farris is one way for us to achieve this important goal. It was a great event and something we look forward to hosting again in the near future."

This was the first of two Whitecaps FC Super 8 Invitationals presented by Farris that will be hosted in 2013. The date and location of the second tournament is still to be determined.
