Carl Valentine to visit Whitecaps FC Saskatchewan Academy Centre

Vancouver Whitecaps FC club ambassador Carl Valentine will be in Saskatoon this weekend to work with players in the Whitecaps FC Academy Centre Skills and Prospects Academy.

Valentine first joined Whitecaps FC in 1979, winning the 1979 NASL Soccer Bowl before the team returned to a parade of over 100,000 people on Robson street in downtown Vancouver. Today, Valentine is Whitecaps FC club ambassador – representing the ‘Caps at appearances throughout the community, including school visits, camps, community clinics, events, and many others. Recently, Valentine entered a dual role as a staff coach with the club’s Residency program.

“I’m looking forward to my time in Saskatchewan this weekend,” said Valentine. “As a Residency staff coach, it will be great to see the level of talent at our Academy Centre, and as club ambassador, I look forward to meeting many of our Whitecaps FC fans in the province of Saskatchewan.”

On Friday, October 4, Valentine will put on a demonstration for Whitecaps FC Skills Academy players and parents players from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Education Gym on the University of Saskatchewan campus.

On Saturday, October 5, the ‘Caps legend will work with the Academy’s Prospects players at the men’s soccer outdoor field.  The schedule includes U-10 Prospects from 9 a.m. to 10:15 a.m., U-12 Prospects from 10:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m., and U-14 Prospects from 12 p.m. to 1:15 p.m. local time.

To wrap-up the visit, Valentine will take in the University of Saskatchewan Huskies men’s soccer game against the University of Alberta at 2p.m. local time. Prior to kickoff, Valentine will lead out the Whitecaps FC Prospects Academy players.

Valentine will then head back to Vancouver for Sunday’s big Whitecaps FC match against Cascadia rivals Portland Timbers. Kickoff will be at 6 p.m. CT, live on Sportsnet 360.
