Two players from the Whitecaps FC Saskatchewan Academy Centre will be making a trip to Vancouver to take part in a special training opportunity.

Whitecaps FC Saskatchewan prospect Zac Edwards has been selected by the Canadian Soccer Association (CSA) to be part of a Western Canadian training camp next week at Burnaby’s Fortius Centre from March 3 to 6. The event is part of a series of Canadian-wide training camps for the 1999-born age group that the Canadian Soccer association are hosting in conjunction with Canada’s Major League Soccer (MLS) clubs, Montreal Impact, Toronto FC, and Vancouver Whitecaps FC. As such, the ‘Caps are supporting the CSA’s Western Canadian camp so that both organizations can assess the 199-born talent pool.

In addition to Edwards, goalkeeper Thomas Hasal has also been invited to join Vancouver’s Pre-Residency group for a week of training. Part of the week’s training will include a match between the Western Canadian prospects and Whitecaps FC Pre-Residency.

“This is a great opportunity for some of our Whitecaps FC Saskatchewan Academy Centre Prospects to get a taste for the opportunities that are available to them,” said Whitecaps FC Saskatchewan Academy Centre regional head coach Bryce Chapman, who will also make the trip to Vancouver for the week.

“This is an important part of our program in Saskatchewan,” added Bart Choufour, Whitecaps FC Pre-Residency and Vancouver Academy Centre head coach. “In addition to our regular visits to Saskatchewan, the chance to get some of these promising young prospects into our Vancouver environment is very important to our club. We hope it will benefit the further development of the local players.”

The full Whitecaps FC Saskatchewan Academy Centre Prospects group will be making a trip to Vancouver for a Whitecaps FC MLS weekend in late Match, where they will train with Whitecaps FC Vancouver staff and watch the ‘Caps play Houston Dynamo on March 29 at BC Place.
