Whitecaps FC loan Omar Salgado to USL PRO affiliate Charleston Battery

Omar Salgado 2014

VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced today that striker/winger Omar Salgado has been loaned to the club’s United Soccer Leagues (USL) PRO affiliate, Charleston Battery – pending receipt of his International Transfer Certificate.

“Omar is a young player with a lot of potential and this loan is a natural step following two seasons with limited playing time,” said Whitecaps FC head coach Carl Robinson. “Our partnership with the Battery provides the opportunity for Omar to earn first team minutes, with a number of his peers, during this stretch of our MLS season.”

Salgado, 20, joined Whitecaps FC in advance of the club’s inaugural Major League Soccer campaign after being selected first overall in the 2011 MLS SuperDraft. After appearing in 14 MLS regular season matches in his rookie campaign, a fractured foot limited Salgado to just seven appearances over the past two seasons.

The 6-foot-4, 210-pound striker becomes the sixth Whitecaps FC player on loan at Charleston, joining midfielders Aminu Abdallah and Andre Lewis and striker Mamadou Diouf from the MLS roster, in addition to U-18 defender Jackson Farmer and U-23 striker Marlon Ramirez. Whitecaps FC MLS SuperDraft picks Adam Mena and Michael Kafari are also members of the Battery.

The Battery are set to open their 2014 USL PRO campaign on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. PT against Orlando City SC – a team that features former ‘Caps players Corey Hertzog and Brad Rusin. The match will be streamed live on charlestonbattery.com.

Whitecaps FC season tickets start at the prorated price of just $331 and single-match tickets start at $22, subject to applicable fees. The 'Caps also offer a flexible range of ticket products, including half-season tickets ($244), 5-packs ($149), student season tickets ($199), and a youth soccer half-season ticket ($100).
