What would Pedro Morales like to say to Jay DeMerit?

Pedro Morales with captain's armband

Editor's note: Whitecaps FC midfielder Pedro Morales reached out to whitecapsfc.com after Jay DeMerit's retirement announcement, wishing to share the following letter (which has been translated from Spanish).

Goodbyes are never easy, especially when it's about leaving what you are most passionate about in life, what you have dedicated years to.

It's for this that I want to thank our captain Jay DeMerit for everything he did for the team, for every minute on the pitch, but even more so for every minute he dedicated to every person who had the pleasure to enjoy his company.

I know that many of the young players will always look up to you, for your work and professionalism. Without a doubt you will be in the memories of the fans and of all those people that will remember every moment of your career.

For my part I can only thank you for your hospitality when I arrived to this club and your willingness to help with anything I needed.

It will be an honour for me to wear the captain's band on my arm, but I know that I could not replace you, only to try to give my all for the team and I hope to be able to exhibit the same energy you did.

Hasta pronto captain, thanks and good luck.
