Darren Mattocks called up to Jamaican national team for friendly against Canada in Toronto

VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC confirmed today that striker Darren Mattocks has been called up by Jamaica for their upcoming friendly against Canada on September 9 at BMO Field in Toronto.


Mattocks will leave for Toronto following Whitecaps FC’s match against D.C. United on Saturday, and he’ll return prior to the ‘Caps midweek clash with San Jose Earthquakes on Wednesday, September 10.


Since being selected second overall in the 2012 MLS SuperDraft, the 5-foot-10, 155-pound striker has made 63 appearances for Whitecaps FC in MLS play. This season, Mattocks has scored six goals and put up three assists while making 22 appearances for the club.


The Portmore, Jamaica native has made 15 appearances for his national side, scoring three goals, since making his debut in 2012. Most recently, Mattocks was called up for friendlies against Serbia and Switzerland this past May. Mattocks started both matches, playing 46 minutes in a 2-1 loss to Serbia and 54 minutes in a 1-0 defeat against Switzerland.
