MLS on TSN 2014

It's crunch time as the MLS regular season winds down, with a number of crucial matches coming this weekend. Several of these matches impact the 'Caps and their push for the playoffs. Below, is a closer look at the four MLS matches that will be live on TSN1 or TSN2.

Friday, October 17 – Portland Timbers vs. Real Salt Lake (7 p.m. on TSN2)

It’s a two team race for the fifth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference with Whitecaps FC looking to hold off Portland Timbers. Vancouver are currently one point ahead of Portland, making Friday’s clash between the Timbers and Real Salt Lake must watch TV for 'Caps fans. If RSL can get a win at Providence Park, Whitecaps FC will be in position to clinch a playoff spot on Saturday against San Jose Earthquakes.

Saturday, October 18 – Toronto FC vs. Montreal Impact (11 a.m. on TSN1)

Not only are the 'Caps seeking an MLS Cup playoff spot, but also Canada’s entry into the 2015/16 CONCACAF Champions League. Vancouver are on the brink of clinching their first CCL appearance, needing only one more point gained or lost by TFC. That makes Saturday morning’s All-Canadian battle another one to watch for ‘Caps fans.

In addition to being must-win for Toronto in terms of the CCL, TFC are also fighting for their playoff lives. Nothing less than a win will keep TFC alive in their quest for their first ever MLS Cup playoff spot.

Saturday, October 18 – San Jose Earthquakes vs. Vancouver Whitecaps FC (7:30 p.m. on TSN1)

This one doesn’t need much explaining. The Blue and White carry the momentum of three straight wins with them as they seek their first win in San Jose since joining MLS. This will be no easy match for the ‘Caps though as the Quakes play their final match at Buck Shaw Stadium. San Jose will also be looking to impress a new head coach after it was announced this week that Mark Watson has been relieved of his duties with Dominic Kinnear returning to coach the Northern California club in 2015.

Sunday, October 19 – LA Galaxy vs. Seattle Sounders FC (5:15 p.m. PT on TSN2)

Arguably the most high profile pair of regular season matches in MLS history as LA Galaxy host Seattle Sounders FC in the first of two consecutive matches. These back-to-back battles will determine the winner of the Supporters Shield – awarded to the top overall MLS team at the end of the regular season.

So why is this important to ‘Caps fans? Should Whitecaps FC qualify for the playoffs, the winner of their fourth vs. fifth Knockout Round match will play a two-match series against the winner of this duel between the Galaxy and Sounders FC.

Epic.
