Canada Soccer has announced the list of nominees for its 2014 Canada Soccer player awards.
The list, which was released on Sunday, features 10 current or former players who have spent time within the Vancouver Whitecaps FC men’s, women’s, and/or youth programs.
Among the list of nominees are current Whitecaps FC U-16 Residency players Matthew Baldisimo and Munir Saleh, who are both nominated for the Canadian U-17 men’s player of the year award, and current Whitecaps FC Girls Elite defender Simmrin Dhaliwal, who is nominated for the Canadian U-17 women’s player of the year award. Dhaliwal was recently the co-recipient of the 2014 Whitecaps FC Most Promising Player Award.
Recent Whitecaps FC Residency graduate Nolan Wirth, now a member of Oregon State University, is also up for the Canadian U-20 men’s player of the year award.
Voting for the 2014 BMO Canadian Players of the Year will be split evenly by Canadian media and Canadian coaches from across the country, while Canadian coaches will vote for the youth awards.
All six winners will be announced during the week of December 15-19.
