At the match: Find out what's happening at the WFC2 match on Sunday at UBC Thunderbird Stadium

If you missed last weekend's historic inaugural WFC2 match, be sure to join us this Sunday to watch WFC2 take on Sounders FC 2 (3 p.m. PT kickoff at UBC Thunderbird Stadium)!


Tickets are still available for purchase.


There will be plenty happening at the match including live music, a variety of food and beverage options, and activities for every fan.


Here is what you need to know ahead of WFC2’s second home match of the season.


STADIUM ACCESS

Thunderbird Stadium is located on the University of British Columbia (UBC) campus at 6288 Stadium Rd. Stadium Rd. can be accessed from SW Marine Drive or East Mall.


Be sure to arrive early to take part in all of the exciting pre-match activities!


Doors open at 2 p.m. PT and kickoff is at 3 p.m. PT.


There are two gates through which guests can enter Thunderbird Stadium. The Main Gate has access points on either side of the Ticket Centre and North Gate.


SEATING

All WFC2 tickets are general admission. Designated seating areas cater to both families (north side) and supporters (south side), with the latter including chanting, cheering, standing, and flag waving.


TICKETS

If you have already purchased tickets, bring them to the match to have them scanned upon entry.


General admission tickets will be available at the gate for $15.

ACTIVITIES

WFC2 home matches feature a festival-like atmosphere with activities for every type of fan!


Check out local Vancouver exotic funk band Coco Jafro when they perform pre-match beginning at 2 p.m. PT. Watch from the stands or wander down to the pitch to get a closer view. The band will also perform a short set during half-time.


WFC2 players will be signing autographs after the match as they walk off the field. Spike the mascot will also be on site all afternoon!


Other exciting highlights include:

·         Face painting station


·         Balloon artists


·         Mini-match area to kick balls around


·         Pre-match clinic


FOOD AND DRINK

A variety of local food trucks will be on site at every WFC2 home match!


This Sunday, try a creative selection of hot dogs at The Dog House; choose from pulled pork, mac & cheese, poutine and short ribs at Hungry Nomad; or try School of Fish for seafood entrées like fish tacos or fish and chips.


After receiving feedback on the lineups at the WFC2 home opener, there will be a total of seven beer locations, two more BBQ stands, and food and beverage services on the upper concourse (as well as on field level within the north and south plazas). 


There will also be concession stands with a variety of chips and candy for purchase.


MERCHANDISE

Official merchandise will be available for purchase at a tent on the south side of the stands.


Brand new WFC2 scarves and T-shirts will be available for purchase, as well as Whitecaps FC MLS team merchandise.


TRANSPORTATION OPTIONS
By Rapid Transit

UBC is easily accessible by the #99 B-Line express bus that travels along the Broadway corridor.


Hop on the #99 B-Line at a designated stop or transfer onto the #99 B-Line after taking any of the following skytrain routes:


- Canada Line to Broadway-City Hall station
- Expo Line/Millennium Line to Broadway station
- Millennium Line to Commercial Drive station

Be sure to leave yourself plenty of travel time! Please note that Thunderbird Stadium is approximately a 23-minute walk from the UBC Bus Loop.


BICYCLE ROUTES AND BICYCLE PARKING

Take the Off-Broadway bike route and then University Boulevard directly to UBC or see the below map for bike route options to UBC.


There are several bicycle racks in the parking lot adjacent to Thunderbird Stadium and throughout UBC campus.  


PARKING

Pay parking is available in multiple lots close to the stadium. Weekend parking is available for $2/hour or a flat rate of $6/day. UBC campus parking information is available here, or you can refer to the map below for lots nearest Thunderbird Stadium.


ACCESSIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

All stadium entrances are wheelchair accessible. Wheelchair seating is located on the south side of the grandstand.


Accessible parking is available directly adjacent to the primary entrance of the facility.
