Whitecaps FC striker Darren Mattocks called up to Jamaican national team for 2015 Copa America

VANCOUVER, BC - Vancouver Whitecaps FC confirmed today that striker Darren Mattocks has been called up to the Jamaican national team for the 2015 Copa América in Chile. 


The Reggae Boyz, led by Winfried Schäfer, are in Group B along with Argentina, Paraguay and defending champion Uruguay. 


The Carribean outfit's first-ever Copa América campaign kicks off on Saturday, June 13 against Uruguay and then versus Paraguay on Tuesday, June 16. Both matches will be played in Antofagasta. Jamaica rounds out their group stage schedule against Argentina on Saturday, June 20 in Viña del Mar.



Mattocks has scored in five of his last six appearances with Jamaica. Most recently, the 'Caps striker found the back of the net in a pair of friendlies against Cuba and Venezuela back in March. 


The Portmore, Jamaica native was also the co-recipient of the Golden Boot at the 2014 Caribbean Cup, scoring three goals in four matches to lead Jamaica to their sixth Caribbean Cup title. Mattocks has totaled eight goals in 22 appearances for his country. 



This season, Mattocks has appeared in 12 MLS regular season matches, starting five of them while scoring three goals. The 24-year old striker, who was drafted second overall in the 2012 MLS SuperDraft, has played in 83 MLS matches with Vancouver. His 19 MLS career goals with Whitecaps FC is second-most in club history. 


Mattocks will join the Jamaican national team following Whitecaps FC's June 6 match vs. LA Galaxy.
