Academy Centre Players of the Month - October

Whitecaps FC Academy Centres are a network of regional training hubs linked through key staff, curriculum, and standards that provide professional supplemental club training for serious, motivated players. Whitecaps FC currently have a network from British Columbia to Ontario, including locations in Kamloops, the Kootenays, London (Ontario), Manitoba, Northern BC, the Okanagan, Saskatchewan, Squamish, Vancouver, and Vancouver Island.

Below are the Whitecaps FC Academy Centre Players of the Month for October.


Island Academy Centre

Name: Kai Toker
Birth Year: 2003
What his coaches say: “Kai provides energy to every session. He is excited to be in the Whitecaps FC program and honours that by giving his very best effort in every training session. He is easy to coach. He has a true growth mentality as he takes information and attempts to implement it immediately.”

Name: MacKenna Henderson
Birth Year: 2001
What her coaches say: “MacKenna is incredibly focused on her personal development and gives her best effort for her own growth and the growth of the group each and every training session.”


Kamloops Academy Centre

Name: Wil Calne
Birth Year: 2004
What his coaches say: “Wil has an outstanding work ethic and continually strives to get better every session. Wil is currently playing with players that are one and two years older than he is and continually meets the challenge. He wants to play at a higher level and will do whatever it takes to get to that level. I have not come across a player in a while that has the work ethic to want to achieve.”

Name: Sophia Siebel
Birth Year: 2002
What her coaches say: “Sophia has been in our academy from the beginning and has progressed exponentially as a player, recently making the Provincial team. She is a great athlete and has an outstanding work ethic. She wants to learn and get better every day – which she is. The sky’s the limit for her!


Kootenay Academy Centre

Name: Farrah Marzicola
Birth Year: 2002 
What her coaches say: “Farrah has a great intensity and drive to become a very good soccer player. She is always asking questions on how to improve her game.” 

Name: Kru Huska
Birth Year: 1998 
What his coaches say: Technically, Kru has really worked at his game. He shows fantastic creativity in games and training.” 


Manitoba Academy Centre

Name: Sierra Halldorson
Birth Year: 2000 
What her coaches say: “Sierra has shown great commitment to her own personal growth. As a player, she works tirelessly to improve herself in all four corners of development and over this month she has been performing at an optimal level.”

Name: Josip Zorica
Birth Year: 2001
What his coaches say: “Josip is a very talented player who leads by example on the field, regardless of the challenge put in front of him. Josip has been playing and training at an extremely high level this month.”


Northern Academy Centre

Name: Alayna Anderson
Birth Year: 2001
What her coaches say: “Alayna has been chosen because of her personal growth and dedication to bringing out the things she has learned into game settings. We ask players to take risks and try new things in games in hopes that it will help them become better players, and Alayna has committed herself to this cause.”

Name: Colin Stauffer
Birth Year: 2004
What his coaches say: “Colin is a very attentive and hard working soccer player. When given a new individual dribbling move, he is one of the first to try it out and see how it works. Even if the move doesn't always end up with success he continues to bring out the moves until he begins to master them. Colin clearly loves the game and wants to improve every time he steps on the field.”


Okanagan Academy Centre

Name: Rowan Trow
Birth Year: 2004
What his coaches say: “Rowan has an excellent attitude towards training and learning. He is always the first to every practice and he is also displaying a lot of the qualities we look for in regards to the technical and tactical components of the game.”

Name: Annika Gross
Birth Year: 2003
What her coaches say: “Annika is a technical player who has been displaying a fantastic attitude week in and week out.”


Saskatchewan Academy Centre

Name: Thomas Hasal
Birth Year: 1999
What his coaches say: “Thomas was the starting goalkeeper for the Saskatchewan Western Canada Games team and was invited for a trial to the Residency program. He has shown a great desire and commitment to perform at a high level. He continually pushes himself beyond his comfort zone with additional strength training and goalkeeper sessions.”

Name: Jordan Zemlack 
Birth Year: 1998
What her coaches say: “Jordan has been a part of the Whitecaps FC Saskatchewan Female Prospects since day one. She recently competed at the 2015 club national championships and signed a letter of intent to play with the University of Saskatchewan Huskies Women's Soccer program. She continues to set the standard in our Prospects Academy. She shows leadership qualities as well as a driven commitment on the field.


Vancouver Academy Centre 

Name: Megin Turi
Birth Year: 2004
What her coaches say: “Megin has showed continued improvement throughout the whole month. She has a fantastic attitude towards training and really tries to bring the session theme alive to help her develop as a player”
