Year-in-Review: The best of 2015

Year-in-review: Best of

OK, we so know who had the best Vancouver Whitecaps FC goal in 2015. And we know what the best save was, too. But we’ve come up with 10 more unofficial awards to hand out as 2015 comes to a close. Without further ado…

BEST ASSIST

Off foot, no look, through the legs of a defender, and perfectly-weighted for Kekuta Manneh.

Pedro Morales, take a bow.

BEST BRACE

It’s not often a defender scores two goals … and it’s not often he scores them like this.

Honourable mention to WFC2 stars Victor Blasco and Marco Bustos for their respective braces, which were the top two WFC2 moments of the year!

BEST INDIVIDUAL CELEBRATION

Kah’s dance moves deserve a shout – as do Kendall Waston’s in Vancouver’s regular season finale vs. Houston. But you can’t beat this Robert Earnshaw front flip.

It’s even better in slow motion.

BEST TEAM CELEBRATION

As if there was ever any doubt…

BEST TACKLE

Matias Laba led MLS with 152 tackles this past season, so there were no shortage of options. But the winner has to be this beauty against Montreal Impact in the first leg of the Amway Canadian Championship Final.

BEST SURPRISE

Speaking of Laba, where did this come from?

BEST BLOCK

Jordan Harvey showing off his goalkeeping skills…

BEST STREAK

This is a tough one. Vancouver’s three straight road wins against LA Galaxy, New York Red Bulls, and New England Revolution were remarkable on a number of levels, but I’ve got to give the nod to Octavio Rivero for scoring in each of his first three games in MLS.

His third goal in as many games was this stunning, stoppage-time winner in Orlando.

BEST PRANK

The birthday showers were great, but how can this not be the winner? Always be alert when goalkeeper coach Marius Rovde is around.

BEST ATMOSPHERE

The atmosphere inside BC Place – from warmup onwards – for Vancouver’s first-ever home playoff match was truly something special. The result was disappointing, but the 27,837 fans who packed the lower bowl created a night that won’t soon be forgotten.
