Masato Kudo

Reysol supporters wishing Kudo well in Vancouver: 'I hope he will become like Ichiro for the Whitecaps'

Kudo with fan

Masato Kudo was a fan favourite at Kashiwa Reysol, his now former club.

And one of his biggest fans was a woman named Sachiko, who coincidentally has ties to Vancouver. A few years ago, she even purchased a Whitecaps FC jersey for her son.

Good decision.

Sachiko, a dedicated Reysol supporter, was shocked to learn that Kudo was leaving the team for Vancouver. But the day after the announcement of Kudo’s transfer to Whitecaps FC, she took her ‘Caps jersey to Reysol’s home stadium and asked Kudo for an autograph.

Kudo graciously complied and said: “You are the first Whitecaps supporter to get my autograph.”

She certainly won’t be the last.

Sachiko is one of a number of Reysol supporters who are planning to make the trip to Vancouver this year to watch Kudo play with his new team.

Another is a man named Shibata.

Shibata joked that Reysol supporters are currently going through KLS, or “Kudo Loss Syndrome,” – many of them are sharing their Kudo memories on Instagram using the hashtag #MasatoKudo – but they still wish the 25-year-old striker well and hope he finds success in Blue and White.

“I hope Kudo will become like Ichiro for the Whitecaps.”
